All large construction equipment runs on engines, and being able to correctly maintain an engine to improve productivity is what makes a technician an asset to the company that they work for.
In the Caterpillar Engine Fundamentals module, a free Caterpillar online course, technicians will learn all about the mechanics of different engine types in the Cat® product line, including the correct procedures for engine overhaul and maintenance.
In this module, technicians will learn about:
- The wide range of engines in the Cat product line
- Diesel engine applications and basic engine theory
- Engine terminology, including components and functions
- Engine systems, including air intake and exhaust systems; lubrication systems; cooling systems and fuel systems
- Disassembly, inspection, reassembly and adjustments of a Cat 3406 diesel engine
- The Cat Sleeve Metering Fuel System
- The Cat 3116/26 Mechanical Unit Injector Fuel System
Learn about engines and become more employable
One of the best ways to make yourself more employable, or to ensure that you can earn a larger salary, is to add specialised skills to your CV. Large construction and mining companies prefer to hire workers who have additional knowledge and training, as a great deal of work relies on machinery that needs to be properly maintained in order to be most productive.
Construction equipment is expensive, making the ability to maintain engines properly a sought after skill. Machinery that is correctly looked after not only improves longevity, but also reliability and productivity. In an industry where time is money, minimising downtime due to poorly maintained equipment is essential.
