French company ENGIE has recently formed a partnership with ANER (Senegal’s National Renewable Energies Agency) to help develop renewable energies within the country.
As many African countries are now beginning to realize, renewable energy is the future. The continent has long been plagued by problems relating to providing power in the face of depleting energy resources and poor infrastructure. With the technical expertise and financial support of ENGIE, the alliance, signed January 2017, will allow for the development of sustainable, environmentally friendly sources of power for Senegal. It will contribute to creating new jobs in the construction industry and will be participating in an industrial cluster to promote professional .
Reduced energy consumption in households and industry
The first phase of the partnership between ENGIE and ANER involves the construction and deployment of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and solar water heaters in the city of Dakar. As a result, approximately 11,000 households will be equipped with solar power.
Secondly, the partnership includes a strategy to reduce the energy consumption of industrial operators in Senegal by marketing energy performance contracts that encourage operators to streamline their energy use. Finally, ENGIE will be instrumental in working with an industrial cluster aimed at promoting renewable energies. The cluster will monitor and develop professional training and strengthen industry networks.
