In 2015, it was announced that Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport would be undergoing a massive expansion with work on the project launching in early 2016. Renovation of the airport, in fact, takes the form of 2 separate projects: a $270 million expansion of the runways, terminals, and cargo areas and a $12.7 billion remodeling and expansion of the departure and arrival terminals.
Renovations to the airport will take place in 3 phases over a period of 20 years, with the entire project to be completed by 2033. What this means for Uganda’s construction industry is that there will be enormous growth in this arena, providing many employment opportunities.
Increase your employability with training from Caterpillar University
Technicians who wish to take advantage of these opportunities need to ensure that they have the necessary skills and training that are sought after by large construction companies. Technicians for Africa offer free online courses for technicians that provide workers with in-depth knowledge of Cat® machinery commonly used in the construction industry. Construction companies prefer to hire workers who have completed training in the use and maintenance of heavy equipment, as this decreases downtime and increases the lifespan of their machines.
