Construction of the Kafue Gorge Lower hydropower plant is progressing well, with the construction of the road connecting Chikankata and Chirundu having been completed.
The hydropower project, with an estimated value of $1,5 to 2 billion, began construction in 2016. The 750-kW power station aims to address an electricity deficit in Zambia. The deficit has been having a negative impact on the country’s copper mining industry and threatening jobs and economic growth.
