Technicians for Africa; sponsored by Caterpillar; now offers a free Caterpillar online course program through the Caterpillar University. Our online courses are aimed at all Africans who wish to build careers as heavy equipment service technicians.
Module 1 – The Caterpillar Story
The first module in our course introduces you to Caterpillar:
- Who we are,
- What we do,
- How we are involved in Africa,
- In which countries we are involved,
- In what projects we are involved, and
- Caterpillar training through Caterpillar’s collaboration with technicians for Africa.
The module also introduces Caterpillar’s collaboration with Barloworld and Ries Engineering in Ethiopia: official Cat® dealerships in no less than 11 sub-Saharan African countries and a co-sponsor in practical training facilities in Africa.

Free online technician training for Ethiopia
Our online course is free. It can be completed from anywhere in Africa – including Ethiopia. All you need is a good internet connection and an earnest desire to apply yourself to the start of a rewarding career. You can obtain a Foundational Certificate as a service technician in just 3 – 6 months, depending on whether you can apply yourself on a full or part-time basis. Practical training in Ethiopia is provided by Ries Engineering.
