If you are employed in the construction or mining sector (or any industry that includes the use of heavy equipment) you’ll know that having a good understanding of the machines you are working with helps you perform better at your job. Technicians for Africa provides free Caterpillar online courses that give technicians additional skills and knowledge to better understand the equipment that they work with every day.
Technicians for Africa is sponsored by Caterpillar. And, as global leaders in construction and mining equipment, there’s no one better to learn from. Our Caterpillar training courses are intensive, to be completed over a period of 3 to 6 months. Various topics are covered over 18 modules – everything from an introduction to Cat® machinery to the basics of hydraulics, engines, and electricity.
On completion of our free Caterpillar training, students receive a certificate of completion (Foundational Level 1 and Level 2 certified) which can assist with admission for further study at a vocational school, or increase employability for existing technicians.
The Technicians for Africa program includes a free online training course on the Cat engines product line and applications. This module gives an overview of engines made by Caterpillar and how they are used. Students will learn about Cat diesel engines that provide power for many types of heavy equipment used in construction and mining, including construction vehicles and propulsion. In addition, the module also covers generators – both diesel and natural gas – that can be used to generate essential electricity when working in areas with little infra-structure.
The training is now available in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
